Who can get child benefit?
- Your child is under 18 and lives with you, or you contribute substantially to the costs.
- For children aged 16 and 17: they go to school or study, or do not earn too much.
- You live or work in the Netherlands and are insured under Dutch social security.
Child living abroad? You may still get child benefit if you work in the Netherlands, but the amount can depend on the country where your child lives, and for some countries you get none. Check the rules on svb.nl.
How to apply
After your child is born in the Netherlands, the SVB usually sends you an application form automatically. Did you move here with children, or did you not get anything? Apply through svb.nl. Next to child benefit you may also be able to get the child budget.
Tip: the complete check calculates all allowances in one go, and also shows schemes from your municipality.
